14 Feb 2008 - Glasgow HF AGM Summary

The 2008 Annual General Meeting took place in Woodside Halls on Tuesday 11th February 2008.

Below is a brief summary of some of the points covered.

The full minutes will be available from the Minutes Secretary in due course.

Due to increasing costs, membership fees are to be increased to £15 for full members, and £10 for concessionary members.

This will apply from 1st January 2009.

The mileage fee will increase to 25p per mile, effective from 1st April 2008.

An exciting programme of activities is being lined up for summer 2008. In keeping with the spirit of the name Glasgow HF Outdoor Club, activities will include cycle trips, a boat trip on Loch Lomond and an even bigger programme of walks.

The position of Social Secretary is now vacant, as Moya Taylor has stepped down from the post. This coincides with the ending of the Tuesday night programme of lectures and meetings, which will not be continued in their present form.

If anyone wishes to take on the post could they speak to the Club President or any committee member.

Likewise, ideas for future midweek-night activities are sought, and in the absence of a social secretary, the Club President or committee members should again be contacted.

A renewed request was made for more people to willing to lead walks. The club has lost 6 leaders over the past year, mainly due to ill health, and without willing leaders, walks cannot be organised. If you can help spread the clubs workload please contact the relevant Saturday or Sunday secretary.

There are 27 new club members. Membership is currently 90 full members and 136 concessionary.

The clubs application for a lottery grant will go ahead in the coming months after a series of delays. The “awards For All” lottery fund could see funding for members to take part in courses in navigation, leadership and winter skills, as well as equipping the club with OS maps and two way radios.

Stephen Thomson pointed out that if the bus trips are not fully utilised they cost the club money. Three out of four walks were well attended, however a poor turnout on one bus saw the buses lose around £100

Over the four journeys. It was further noted that the clubs bus trips, at £10 per person, are considerably cheaper than many other clubs and are excellent value for money.

During the course of the evening two presentations were made.

Moya Taylor was made an honorary member in recognition of her many years of service to the club.

Alice Galletly stepped down as programme editor after 6 years and is replaced by Stephen Thomson.

Both Alice and Moya were given gifts as thanks for all their hard work.
