22 May 2008 - Keep it tight!
This was passed to Frank Alexander by Edinburgh HF, and is posted here as a reminder, not only to the 'mountain hares', but to all members, of the importance of staying with the group.
During the HF weekend at Drumnadrochit, a member of the walking group got
separated from the main party and could not be located for the rest
of the day. The person was eventually rescued from a remote location by
a search and rescue helicopter around midnight that evening.
We would remind all members of the necessity to stay within sight of the walk
leader throughout the walk and, as stated at the AGM, to
carry essential survival equipment, i.e map, compass, headtorch etc.
If you wish to leave the party for any reason, e.g to climb an extra
Munro, you must inform the walk leader before leaving the group.
