                                              Yorkhill Children’s Foundation

I am the Community Fundraiser for Yorkhill Children’s Foundation, the charity which supports the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow.  As part of our fundraising portfolio, we have organised an overseas trek to the High Peaks of the Annapurnas, in Nepal (5- 15 November 2009).  This is an 11 day trek, which will give people the opportunity to experience one of the most popular, and widely regarded trekking destinations in the world, as well as exploring the fascinating city of Nepal, and its capital of Kathmandu.

I was wondering if there would be any possibility that you could hep to advertise, or help to promote this trek in your Packchat magazine, as I though that it might be something that some our your members would be interested in.  I am more than happy to provide you with copy for the newsletter, or even to supply inserts which could go with the newsletter itself to your 200- 300 members.

This is a fantastic trek, which gives people the opportunity to not only fundraise for a local charity which supports around 150,000 children from all over Scotland each year, but also to explore and experience a trekking climate like no other.

Any help that you can possibly give would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly on 0141 201 6917.

I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Kind regards

Kirsten

MINES ADVISORY GROUP

MAG is a UK based landmine charity looking for people from all over the country to sign up to our exciting Community Challenge Cambodia in March 2009. This event will offer participants a once in a lifetime experience with the chance to trek around the temples of Angkor Wat, build houses for landmine victims and the poor and meet the heroes dedicating their lives to clearing landmines. It will raise funds to support our international mine clearance programmes in 14 countries including Cambodia, Vietnam, Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan and Angola.

I would be grateful if you were able to advertise this event on your website or post the link www.maginternational.org/cambodia09. As MAG is a charity we have limited funds to promote this event, therefore your support by helping us to advertise would be invaluable to us.

If you or any of your staff or customers would like to take part, either email us at events@maginternational.org or give Lesley a call on 0161 236 4311 and we’ll be more than happy to provide you with more information.

Many thanks

MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE

Hi there,

I would like the opportunity to promote our fundraising events to your members. The two events in particular are the Ben Nevis Challenge and our Iceland Trek. The Ben Nevis Challenge is a sponsored Ben Nevis hill walk, with full guides. For many of your inexpereinced members or those who are interested in supporting a charity this is a great opportunity for them.

Our Iceland trek is more challenging and includes a four day hike across Iceland, viewing amazing scenery and taking on a good physical challenge. Iceland has many hidden secrets and really is a stunning location for walking. All guides, accommodation and travel is included in this package and participants only have to get sponsorship. Both events are massive fundraisers for Marie Curie Cancer Care and for Glasgow these will raise money to build a much needed new cancer hospice in Glasgow. It would be fantastic to have the opportunity to promote these challenges to your members and I would be grateful for any help you can give with this.

Kind regards Gemma McDonald

FUND4DARFUR

This summer, Fund4Darfur is launching a nationwide ‘Walk4Darfur’, following in the footsteps of 12 volunteers, including Holocaust survivor Dr. Martin Stern, and 6 Darfuri refugees who last year walked from Cambridge to Downing Street to protest at the removal of Darfuri refugees to Khartoum.

Their walk raised £600, featured in local press, and ultimately stalled the deportation of Mohamed Osman, a Darfuri civilian from the Zaghawa tribe who would have faced almost certain torture at the hands of Sudanese security services.

This year we are hoping that as many people as possible – individuals and groups – will take part in a nationwide ‘Walk4Darfur’ across the UK, on whatever route they wish, to raise money and awareness of the plight of Darfuris in the region and in the UK. We will be plotting all of our walkers’ progress through the summer, and although it wont be strictly competitive there will be prizes for the most money raised and longest distance walked.

For more information, or if you think your members might be interested in taking part, please feel free to contact me via email or using either of the telephone numbers below.

For information about Darfur read the text at the bottom of this email, and visit www.fund4darfur.org or www.aegistrust.org for information about Fund4Darfur and Aegis Trust – the leading UK organisation for the prevention of genocide. There is also a link to our newsletter below.

I very much hope you will consider this a worthy cause and that you and your members will consider getting involved.

Thank you for your time and best wishes,

Amy
