The A/B walk to Ben More on Sunday 27th July 2008 was disrupted by a major road accident at Loch Lomond. Traffic was diverted away from Luss to the new Glen Fruin road, and while some of the cars managed to beat the initial queues, two other cars were held up in tailbacks. After suffering the initial delay, and being unable to find out where the other cars were, a very late start on the hill seemed to be unavoidable. With this in mind it was decided that the rear two cars would remain in the Arrochar area, and a good day was had on the Cobbler.
It later transpired that the other group had reached Ben More and after a delay waiting on the rear cars, carried on to enjoy the day (see picture above). However, that evening the road was still closed and a return via Callander was required.
While many people have other club members home phone numbers, very few have their mobile numbers, and had they been available on Sunday the problems caused by the separation of the group could have been quickly sorted.
It may be an idea in future to make a list of mobile phone numbers (at least one per car if possible) before departing, in case of difficulties en-route.
